January 5-8, 2017
Founded in 2015 by Festival Director, Elizabeth A. Baker; Artist-In-Residence, Robert Fleitz; and Festival Coordinator, Fofi Panagiotouros; The Florida International Toy Piano Festival is an extension of the purposes of The New Music Conflagration, Inc. Visiting festival participants engage with the local community to further the Tampa Bay area culturally, in addition to promoting the work of talented toy piano performers, scholars, and composers from across the globe. The 2017 Florida International Toy Piano Festival is proudly partnered with: The City of Pinellas Park, The St. Petersburg Library System, Bloom Art Center, The Space at 2106 Main, The Hillsborough County Library System, and MIRA at St. Petersburg College.
The theme for the 2017 festival is toy piano in collaboration, to achieve this end, in addition to visiting festival participants from across the globe; The New Music Conflagration, Inc. has enlisted the artistic forces of composers Olivia Kieffer and Kelly Barefield, in conjunction with performing powerhouses Carrie Frey (viola), Mandy Millot (cello), Sal Bautista (guitar, mandolin), and Amy O’Dell (toy piano).
An extensive collaboration with band directors in Pinellas County Schools, will afford K-12 students the opportunity to work with professional artists on original compositions, which will be premiered on January 5, 2017 to open the festival.
