The New Music Conflagration, Inc. is proud to welcome emerging composer Kelly Barefield as Junior Composer-In-Residence for the 2017 Florida International Toy Piano Festival. In addition to her personal residency goals and creating works for the guest artists, Kelly will be working closely with Composer-In-Residence Olivia Kieffer to on outreach initiatives for local K-12 students. Kelly’s works for the festival add to her growing portfolio and help develop her signature voice as an emerging artist.
Kelly Barefield is a composer and violinist currently based in Tampa, FL. Her compositions include works for chamber ensemble and solo instruments such as Wasteland, a solo piano work, and Cuts and Bruises a solo multiple percussion piece, both premiered in the Barness Recital Hall at the University of South Florida and her. As an active violinist, Ms. Barefield has performed with the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts chamber orchestra, the USF Symphony Orchestra, and the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra. Kelly is currently pursing a degree in music composition under professors Paul Reller and Baljinder Sekhon at the USF School of Music where she is the recipient of a scholarship for music composition.
